Study Finds Too Much Gaming Is, and Is Not, Bad For Kids

A new study has found that young boys who worn-out a lot of time performin videogames suffer from lower version and writing scores than their non-gamer peers, yet ultimately suggests that games "aren't inherently harmful."

Conducted by Henry Martyn Robert Weis and Brittany Cerankosky of Denison University, the study was simplicity itself: Hand out PlayStation 2 consoles to a bunch of boys, and so brook back and see what happens. More specifically, 64 boys, between six and baseball club geezerhood old, were recruited for the subject area, half of whom were given PS2 systems and terzetto "all-ages" games, while the lie remained console free. Parents were told that the study was designed to examine their development and that the games were equitable an inducement for fetching part.

Four months by and by, when the researchers returned to examine the results, they discovered that the boys who had been given the consoles showed "significantly lower reading and composition scores" than those who had not. "These results suggest that despite some people's inclining to dread new technology, video games aren't inherently harmful in themselves," helium wrote along his blog. "Their peril lies in their power to shift the balance between work and run."

And then, to recapitulate: Too much videogaming, like-minded to a fault much television or overmuch junk food, isn't good for kids and parents need to keep a hat connected it. That may sound ilk mere common sentience, but IT's the sort of obvious conclusion that seems to escape a hatful of mass.
